BREAKING NEWS: LEGAL ACCESS FOUNDATION
Aliyu Lange (pseudonym) was charged for the offence of stealing.
Actually, HE STOLE A CHICKEN. That was criminal. We didn't represent him
to lie but for the sake of having access to justice.
Aliyu left his state (undisclosed)
for another state to just to seek better survival opportunities. His master, who operated a farm business, treated Aliyu badly and in a bid to get at his master, Aliyu stole a chicken.
Unfortunately, he was caught and the chicken was recovered from him, and he had been in prison detention until the Foundation met with him.
The convict pleaded guilty of the offence of stealing, and he was summarily tried. We made a plea of allocotus on his behalf before his sentence was pronounced by the Court. We also informed the Court that we assist in rehabilitating former prison inmates.
The Court sentenced him to 2 months imprisonment with an option of N6,000 as fine. That was on Friday last week.
After concluding with the official documentations, Aliyu was discharged from prison today. He was happy and looked calm. He informed us that he wanted to return to his state and join his brother in his (Aliyu's brother) bakery business and start a new life there.
We gave him some money as he left for his state today. We may never meet with Aliyu again, but we feel fulfilled that another person has left the prison -necessarily.
